Logo mockup on a coffee cup

CASE STUDY
Brand Identity & Style Guide
Karla Khavi is the owner of a fictional local coffee shop named "The Whole Bean" who needed a visual identity for her new business. I created a logo, icons, social media graphics, a type scale, and a color scheme.
Project Type: School project
Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop, Unsplash, Google Fonts, Mockupbro
Role: Designer
Date: 2022

THE DESIGN PROCESS
User Personas
Based on brainstorming workshops, I created three user personas (or audience profiles) to help identify the specific needs and problems my designs would be solving. I referred to them throughout the entire design process, especially when creating the branding style guide.

Logo Sketches
After identifying my target audience, what they wanted, and how the owner envisioned her business, I used word association to gather ideas. Then I began to sketch potential logo designs.
The logo that is circled was the ultimate choice. I selected it because it was simple, easily identifiable, and pretty cute.
The final logo design - lovingly called "The Big B" - can be seen below, along with two icons I created and designed for web and print.
Social media graphics
I made banners for Facebook, Twitter, and an Instagram mockup. Inside the style guide, I included instructions on how to best display the graphics or their own graphics on social media while maintaining their brand.

THE FINAL PRODUCT
The Whole Bean's Brand Style Guide

The final deliverable is a 13-page high quality document in PDF form. It includes the mission statement, logo, icons, typescale, color scheme, imagery, and best practices for logo placement and social media.

I believe I created a strong and distinctive brand identity that the target audience will love and associate exclusively with “The Whole Bean.”
